New STEM Innovation Lab Now Open

This month, IAGS opened its new STEM Innovation Lab — a purpose-built space for robotics, coding, electronics and design that gives students hands-on access to tools most schools only offer at the university level. The lab replaces what was previously an underused computer room and reflects a broader push to make STEM learning practical, not just theoretical.
“We wanted a space where a Grade 6 student building their first circuit and a Grade 12 student finishing a robotics capstone project could both be working at the same time,” said the school’s STEM coordinator. The lab is equipped with 3D printers, a laser cutter, a full set of robotics kits, and workstations loaded with the same design and coding software used in university engineering programs.
What Students Will Build

Lower and middle grade students will use the lab during scheduled STEM periods to work through a structured robotics and coding curriculum, building toward a year-end showcase. High school students will have access during elective blocks and after-school club hours to pursue independent projects, including entries for next year’s Regional Science Olympiad.
The lab launch also comes with a new after-school Robotics Club, open to students in Grade 6 and above, meeting twice a week under the supervision of our science faculty. Students interested in joining can sign up through their homeroom teacher or speak with the STEM coordinator directly.
Looking Ahead
The Innovation Lab is the first phase of a broader facilities investment at IAGS, with a renovated media and library space planned for later this year. We’ll share updates on that project, along with photos from the Robotics Club’s first sessions, in future editions of our News & Events page.
